Embark on a unique Esports journey this September with the groundbreaking "Warrior GMR VA Duel of Champions". This exciting two-day event is an unprecedented collaboration between the Warrior GMR Foundation, Active Duty Military Branches, Howard University Esports, and The US Department of Veterans Affairs Center For Minority Veterans. Aimed at spotlighting the underserved and Veteran communities, this innovative tournament sets a new bar in the Esports arena.
On Saturday, September 16, 2023, participants will be plunged into the thrilling world of Rocket League, a high-octane sports game that merges the exhilaration of football with the thrill of rocket-powered cars, making every match a gravity-defying battle of skill and strategy.. Watch as Veterans and civilians alike demonstrate their skill, tenacity, and teamwork in this intense competition, echoing the fighting spirit and resilience that defines our servicemen and women.
After a day of Rocket League action, Sunday, September 17, 2023, kicks off with some Smash Bros action. Opening its doors to local colleges, high schools, and the Veteran community, this event is an open invitation to showcase your skills and compete in one of the most beloved fighting games of all time. Witness the high-spirited competition as students and Veterans go controller-to-controller in a series of dynamic battles.
The Warrior GMR VA Duel of Champions is more than just a gaming event. Shenandoah University (SU) in collaboration with SU’s Esport Programs, SU’s Veterans, Military, and Families Center (VMFC) and the Warrior GMR Foundation hosted a 2-day esports event in honor of Veterans Day.
The two day event centers around the Warrior GMR Valorant Esports Cup which will be played on SU’s main campus, Active-duty Army, Navy, Space Force, Air Force and Coast Guard esport teams will challenge veterans’ teams as well as a team composed of teens that lost a military parent called Gold star Gamers.
The Warrior GMR Armed Forces Esports Championship is a primary pillar of the Warrior GMR Foundation, a 501(c)3 founded in 2021 whose mission is to promoting health, wellness, and community-ship through gaming. A tournament-style rivalry between the U.S. Armed Forces in a Championship Series where military and gaming enthusiasts compete for honor, glory, and the Warrior trophy.
The Warrior GMR Cup featured five teams representing various branches of the armed forces. The competition was held in conjunction with the annual Rugbytown Sevens rugby tournament at Infinity Park, an on-field competition that since its inception has also featured teams from the various military branches.
Hosted in coordination with the Warrior GMR Cup, the Brain Health Summit 2021 was a small conference focused on the future of mental health through gaming. Attendees recognized how to leverage gaming as a social-emotional platform that will help transition veterans and prevent suicide.
